Zines are small booklets designed to give a small sample of someone's work or tell a mini story. These booklets are often given away for free and used as a promotional tool for artists.

I worked independently to illustrate a series of zines, and then gave them away fro free on my college campus. I then created a collection box to hold one of each zine edition. I use these zines as business cards, and as a creative outlet for personal expression amidst my corporate work.

Role:

THE FIRST ZINE: VOLUME 1

This personal project was first inspired by a class I took in high school. My sophomore year art teacher (shout out to Mrs. Elliott) taught my class about zines and their collectability. After learning about these little books, i couldn't stop thinking about them! I knew that I wanted to publish my own one day, and I finally got the chance my sophomore year of college. I set a personal goal to create and distribute one zine edition per quarter of the academic year.

I illustrated my first zine all by hand, and then made photocopies on the printer in my dorm building. I then set them out in a dish outside of my dorm room with a sign that read "free!" I was thrilled when all 25 copies were gone within just a couple of days.

LEARNING: VOLUME 2

Volume 2 is where I really started to adapt to the school printers and became even more creative with my illustrations.

COMPLETING MY GOAL: VOLUME 3

Spring quarter of my Sophomore year, I published my third zine, successfully completing my goal of releasing one zine per quarter of the academic year.

RETURNING TO THE PROJECT: VOLUME 4

In my senior year of college, I returned to my zine project to create a Senior Edition. Creating another zine was a full-circle moment for me, and I felt that creating just one more would round out my college experience. I gave away copies of all four volumes during my senior show exhibition.

THE FULL COLLECTION: ZINE BOX

What better way to commemorate my zines than a collection box? For my senior exhibit, I set out to create a box that would hold one of each of the four volumes.
