PEARL DIVER ROOT BEER
Adults who choose not to drink feel embarrassed by holding immature soda cans at social gatherings and are worried that others will comment on their drink choice. Adults recovering from alcohol addiction feel especially out of place when they are the only ones not drinking.

I worked independently to create a root beer product that elevates the soda-drinking experience and maintains a level of maturity.

STEP ONE: THE BOTTLE
My root beer brand, Pearl Diver, is inspired by prohibition-era speakeasies and the high-class lifestyle of the 1920s. The name is a deceptive '20s slang term for a dishwasher and is meant to allude to the non-alcoholic drink tucked away in a liquor-inspired bottle.
I started by sketching bottle design ideas, and imagined how they would look in a real-life setting. In the end, I decided that the bottle would need to be somewhat similar to a beer bottle in size and shape, to prevent calling too much attention to the user.
1
I started with digital drawings of how my bottle would look.
2
I then pulled my design into Adobe Dimensions. This is the first version of my bottle.
3
The final version of my bottle removed the flat label panel and experimented with new textures.
STEP TWO: THE LABEL
To design my root beer label, I started first by visualizing how I wanted the brand to look. Since I wanted my product to represent the 1920s, I explored imagery that would represent the era clearly, while also alluding to my brand name.
STEP THREE: THE FINAL PRODUCT
After finalizing my label design, I added my new illustrations to my bottle. I then created more illustrations to add more detail to my product design, like a small version of the mascot's head for the bottle cap design, illustrations for the back of the bottle, and an alternative logo design for the back. I also chose to include the brand's narrative story on the back of the bottle.
